Arturo Oujo is a nationally certified Registered Architect in the state of New Jersey and New York, practicing architecture in six states. First generation born in Northern New Jersey of Spanish Immigrants, Arturo grew up in the construction industry, which was the family business. Prior to pursuing his career in architecture, Arturo diversified his education attending Plaza School for Architectural Drafting and Design, studied Environmental Law at New Jersey Institute of Technology, and Construction Administration at New York University.
Architecture was Arturo’s lifelong dream. In 1992 he attended New school of Architecture in San Diego, California graduating in 1996 with a Bachelors Degree of Architecture and further pursued his career with postgraduate studies in Southern California Institute of Architecture in Los Angeles. In 1999, he received his Masters Degree in Architecture from the Polytechnical University of Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain. Arturo’s studies and travels have taken him nationally and abroad to produce award-winning projects in commercial, hospitality, retail, educational, single and multi-family housing, hotels, resorts, and large scale urban developments.
Arturo has been a consummate entrepreneur most of his life from a very young age painting garages in 1981 on his bicycle until he founded his first company in 2001, OM Atelier Architects. Om Atelier Architects operated during the harshest of times in U.S. History still producing over 500 projects regionally and nationally. In 2007, Arturo began to see the future of the profession and the state of the economy and government and decided to excel further in his public life, becoming a fellow of Leadership New Jersey and concurrently teaching as an adjunct professor of Architecture at New Jersey Institute of Technology. Arturo is currently forming the first Center for Architecture in New Jersey, a non-profit organization.
In 2008, Arturo sold his shares of Om Atelier Architects to pursue bigger large-scale developments on his own and formed TAO Architect (Taller Arturo Oujo, Architect). Arturo is currently working on a 350 million dollar project producing a large-scale community in an existing industrial complex in Hudson County; he is responsible for the elaboration and construction of 830 live-work lofts, retail stores, restaurants, cafés, and a state-of-the-art community center totaling over 1.5 million square feet of building on a 12.5 acre site within a historic district. Arturo lectures regionally on subjects of architecture, business and civic leadership. |
